Maui is always an amazing place to come back to…besides the conditions is good to meet all the Cabrinha crew again and all mt friends living here! After a couple years shooting in different locations, Cabrinha decided to come back to our homeground and shoot again on Maui! We also had a super pimp set up right on the beach, we were pumping up kites in our garden and launching in front of the house….we had a solid swell last week and pretty much wind everyday…we jam a few days up at Pete’s which was super fun…so yah it couldnt really get better than this!

I had a little injury at my heal, but these last few days of rest, already helped me..so it should be all fine for my next event in France!

2 weeks passed fast…everybody is leaving tomorrow, back to cold and wetsuit weather in Europe! Hopefully the summer will arrive soon!

things sometimes just go wrong..and thats just what happen to me in Morocco. I’ve never really got in feeling with this place, maybe the food, or the water…u knows!

In the singles i messed it up, mixing last year judging with this new new scoring system. I thought about the 5 tricks, but not that one one trick for each category counts. Kinda stupid…but yah, guess that now I learnt it! Lost with Ewan because i ended u missing one good trick, but did some good one in the same category…

Started the double well with the Brazilian Madson, then had an ok heat with my buddy team mate Liam, but he rode solid, and won.So yah, wasnt really the best start of the year for me…but it can only get better!

Trying stay positive and getting some nice fresh weather here in Italy, before hitting Maui for the Cabrinha shoot 2014! cant wait!!

the vacations are over, aftr 1 and half month here in the Canaries its time to pack up the bags and get back on a plane!

Staying in one place for such a long time its a pretty rare thing for me….and i quite like! You go out in the same spots, hang out with the locals, but also go to the same supermarket and cook, which really makes me feel like i’m at home and relaxed! Conditions in winter here are pretty random, the wind can basically be from every direction, strong, light, it can stop for a few days, but there’s also some sick surfing spots…so yah, overall was a good time here!

Tomorrow I only have one stopover in Swiss before heading to Cape Town for the NP shoot. Its gonna be fun to ride with Keahi and Susi again! In a week time then I’ll fly straight to Morocco for the first Pkra event of the year!

The final event of the season was held at Pointe Magnin in the wonderful New Caledonia, where, despite the lack of cooperation from the local weather conditions, the freestylers were able to show the crowds their stuff in the final two days of the event.

The singles elimination round held on Saturday 24 November saw Alby beat his French ‘cousin’, Arthur Guillebert relatively easily and then go on to face Stefan Speissberger from Austria. It was a tough heat with Speissberger pulling some good tricks from the bag at the beginning, but Alby held his calm and continued to deliver right throughout the heat and moved on to the next round to face the world vice-champion of 2010 & 2011, Alex Pastor. Pastor dominated the heat and Rondina was unable to produce his best. The losers final saw Rondina pitched against his kiwi rival Marc Jacobs. During the heat the wind dropped and after a tense wait due to a blackout of the judges automatic vote counter, Jacobs came out on top leaving Alby in fourth place ahead of the doubles eliminations on the following day.

Rondina’s first and only heat of the day saw him up against the Belgian Cristophe Tack. Even though he started well, Alby was unable to beat Tack who was in great form and the result left Alby 5th on the day but with enough points for him to maintain his third place in the overall rankings.

The battle for first and second place both for the New Caledonian event and the 2012 championship went down to the very final heat between Zoon and Pastor – a real head to head with Zoon just getting the edge and winning by less than half a point in order to stay top of the world.

“It’s been a year of highs and lows, two second places at the beginning of the season and then being out of the rankings in Germany… But in life you need to know how to deal with these things and at the end of the day I’ve made the podium for 2012. A huge thanks to my sponsors, manager, family and friends who’ve all supported me really well this year. I’m going to take a short break now, but I’m then going to get stuck into some serious training for 2013!” commented Alby when asked about his feelings at the end of the 2012 championship.
